What is Channian Park?
Channian Park is a protected alpine encompassing forests of Deodar cedar, blue pine, and fir, along with open sub-alpine meadows and glacial streams. It creates an undisturbed wildlife corridor of considerable ecological importance.
Key Wildlife Species
Himalayan Monal Pheasant
Pakistan's national bird is one of the most spectacular birds on earth with iridescent metallic green, purple, red, and gold plumage. Best spotted at forest-meadow edges in early morning, particularly in autumn and spring.
Himalayan Brown Bear
Brown bears inhabit the higher reaches of Channian Park, particularly sub-alpine meadows above 2,500m. Most active in late summer and autumn before winter hibernation.
Common Leopard
Leopards are present throughout the forested zone. While almost never seen, their presence is confirmed by pugmarks, scratch marks on trees, and alarm calls of wildlife.
Markhor & Kashmir Grey Langur
Markhor are occasionally recorded in rocky higher zones. Kashmir Grey Langurs move through the Deodar canopy in family troops, their haunting calls echoing across the valley.
